When you purchase a bakkie, whether it is a single or double cab, you will undoubtedly want to take it on a lovely off road adventure. Off roading is exciting, thrilling, and sometimes even dangerous, so it is important that you are prepared and capable for the journey ahead of you.

There are certain courses that you can go on which will prepare you for off road driving, they are specialised courses which will teach you how to handle driving on difficult terrains, conquer steep hills and get yourself out of difficult situations. Furthermore, you will be taught how to cross bodies of water, and drive over sand dunes and in mud. These off roading courses are brilliant because they also teach you how to rescue your vehicle out of difficult situations. You will also be taught use your vehicle to help other stranded vehicles in off road situations, utilising your bakkie's enhanced pulling power.

Before you embark on your journey you need to map out the route that you have in mind. Take all the details of your trip into account, the type of terrain you will be travelling on and any potential hazards. If you are new to off roading, then it is imperative that you only travel on previously mapped routes that have been explored before. There will be tips and techniques available to help you with any obstacles that you may encounter on the route, and there will also be advice on what to expect. This can go a long way in assisting you whilst you explore lands unknown. There are off roading clubs, where you can arrange trips with other off road enthusiasts. That way you will travel in convoy and can therefore help each other should anything untoward happen on the journey.

Another thing to do before you go on your off road adventure, is to ensure that your vehicle is in great working order. If you are going on a long or potentially hazardous trip, you should have your vehicle checked over by a mechanic. Your tires, windshield wipers, and lights are vitally important on your journey. Ensure that you have tow rope, a spare tire and an emergency kit in your vehicle. If you are going to be carrying a load in the bed of your bakkie, you need to ensure that the goods are secured tightly down so that they do not fall off whilst you are moving. If you are going to be pulling a trailer you need to make doubly sure that it is secured properly. The last thing you want on your journey is your trailer coming loose.

Remember to enjoy your journey and take as many pictures as you can! It will be a memorable experience and you will undoubtedly be a better off road driver once it is completed. You will be able to take more passengers on your trip due to the spacious cabin of your off road vehicle, as well as more luggage.
