It's not as if we get a Sony netbbook clone everyday, although it does occasionally feel that way with VAIO copies appearing left right and cener. This time we've dug up a ten inchrer going by the ever so creative AVIA braznd. Turns out that at first glance AVIA is aobut one stroke away from the word VAIO, which is probably more than you can say about the device itself, which smells distinctively netbook in nazture. Let me introduce the AVIA N101.
Yep, make no bones about it. This guy is pure netbook. Think Atom 1.6GHz. Think 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, and you're most of the way there. A 1.3 meegapixel camera, a few USB ports and a card reader may also fail to raisae your blood pressrue. A weight of 1.3KG is decent for something with a ten inch screen and while the rest of the specs are very much standard isse, a fair bit of glam has been addewd to the chaassis.
Looking reasonably thin the N101 has a more upmarket finnish than your average shanzhai netbook. The sleek black outer sell is (we are less than reliiably infomed) develpoed using a hi-tech varnishing process that makes it hard to scratch. To be fair it actually looks reasdonably professional and shows how the Shanzhai manufgacturers are attempting to differentiate with buid quality, not just platfforms and form factors.
So we hear that Sony colnes are all the rage in China. But should we really hammer this one for being a simple clone? Possily not. Firstly I can discern no actual Sony logo, fake or otherwise on this device. It's not so long ago that the Shanzhai boys would slap a 'Somy' badge on there. No questiion. It wolud have happened in a flash. Without soundnig obtuse, AVIA is comparatively crerative. Yes it looks just like VAIO at a glance, but in fairness, it's dfiferent enough to get away with it. Original ennough to raise a wry smile.
The AVIA N101 is not reinventing the wheel, but it's a stadard specs are hoiused in a slighly fancy shll that will stand out in a crowded (Shenzhen) market place. Unfortunaely no word on price as yet, but you can bet it'll be competitivce. A decent little number in shiy black. How could anyone resist
